Commissioned shortly after 1538 by Bishop Giovan Battista Ricasoli, the palace, the work of architect and humanitarian Cosimo Bartoli, became by the will of Cosimo de' Medici, the monastary of San Miniato al Ceppo, and was once again brought to life, although the ample gardens which once led to the walls of the city, were lost.
