Located 66 km east of Verdun and 40 km west of the German border, at the confluence of the Moselle and Seille rivers, it is the capital of the Lorraine region. Battled over since Roman times this town has an interesting mixture of French and Germanic influences. The cathedral has lovely stained glass, some of it designed by Matisse.
