Although close to the city centre, the hotel is set in the peace and quiet of English countryside at its best and provides sought after country house comforts within a city setting. Built in 1890, the house has been extensively refurbished and now offers twelve individual en-suite bedrooms with charming public rooms combining Victorian elegance and tasteful decor, with all the modern comforts of a good hotel. The hotel was recently awarded 5 diamonds by both the AA Guest Accommodation scheme and the RAC. All the rooms are individually decorated and are named after classic English writers, each having a teddy bear dressed in the style of the particular author. All have shower or bathroom en suite, colour television, direct dial telephone with wake-up service and modem link, tea & coffee making facilities and hairdryers. Fresh flowers and magazines are constantly updated. The public rooms include an elegant Drawing Room, Dining Room and a stunning Conservatory and adjacent Garden Terrace. An excellent wine list has been prepared in liaison with a leading West Country Wine Merchant. In addition to the formal gardens and croquet lawn, the seven acres include a meadow park extending down to the Kennet and Avon canal - perfect for the morning stroll. Adjacent to the herb garden at the front, there is ample car parking. Special attention is given in helping guests to plan their itineraries, if required, so that they can fully benefit from their stay in Bath. Assistance is also provided with the availability of maps and brochures, together with route planning to the many nearby major tourist attractions, such as Avebury, Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury Abbey/Tor, Longleat House and Salisbury Cathedral.
